About SEEDFOLKids
SEEDFOLKids is a 26-week after-school garden program for 3rd and 4th-grade students at Edison Elementary School in Tampa, Florida. Based on Newbery-winning author Paul Fleischman's book Seedfolks, SEEDFOLKids Afterschool Garden Experience is rooted in Florida’s science and leadership standards. The program combines hands-on gardening with real-world learning in agriscience, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and teamwork. Students grow vegetables in raised beds, participate in food system-related field trips and guest-led workshops, and host school events like SEEDFOLKids Market Day. Through this work, they develop confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper connection to the food they eat and the environment around them.
